Atavist Book

The Atavist project is the result of ten years work by many people, initiated by Annetts exhibition of the 22 paintings of the major Arcana of the Tarot. Foulsham then commissioned the full deck of cards and a book to acompany them. Both Annett and her co-author Rowena Shepherd wanted this to be a heavy weight project, visually and philosophically. It presents a contemporary look at the Tarot; its structures, sources and uses, then sets it in the context of 21st centuary beliefs and media. The images are produced in a variety of ways; traditional painting and printmaking, photography, sculpture and of course digitally created works. They have also produced a CD rom along side the book and cards, which attempts the impossible: a simple users guide to the Tarot and a deconstruction of the Quabalistic tree of life "of which the tarot are the ripe fruit". It contains additional film footage and animation.

Available through all good bookshops.
